I was very impressed with the food served in Main Moon on my very first trip but my impression ended on my first trip itself. I cannot say the same thing any longer on my subsequent visits which resulted in me not patronizing them anymore. Not only the service is bad but the standard of food has just dropped tremendously. Just another cookie cutter Chinese restaurant. Their menu consists of dishes that every other Chinese restaurants carry.
When you are a business owner, your priority has got to consist of excellent service and excellent food but this business fails with both of it. When you are a business owner, you do not have selective kindness and manners over your customers. Every time, I patronized she would just have a scald on her face as though she is not happy to see me. Besides that, she would be blatantly rude towards me. I am not exaggerating but I decided to stay behind and notice how she treats her other customers. True enough, she can be very polite with the customers whom she likes. I do not think that is actually a great idea for a business owner to portray selective treatments.
I could not tell the difference in certain dishes as they tasted alike. There was no uniqueness to the food at all. The chicken used tasted like it has been pre fried a few days ago. The texture of the meat was not fresh. Their food is way too oily. The ingredients used in the dishes just did not taste fresh. I have had better authentic Chinese food before and at gourmet level at that. This is just another Chinese restaurant in Racine. I expect impeccable standards for what I pay for it. If I had 4 thumbs, I did give it four thumbs down.
Not my favourite.
With two Racine locations, Main Moon serves this city's most popular Chinese food. This busy strip mall store in the Westgate Shopping Center on Highway 20 is always clean, buzzing, and reasonably prompt, considering the heavy flow of customers, which can jam the place a little at peak hours.
Most of a typical Chinese menu is available here, including Cantonese standards like Chop Suey, Egg Foo Young, and Lo Mein as well as Szechuan Shrimp and Hunan Chicken or Beef. Prices are what you'd expect, the ingredients seem good, and the entrees are tasty enough -- but the cooking, advertised as 'New York Style,' is more like food court Chinese than a culinary experience. There's too much oil and salt and sugar, not enough creativity or spice. I have ordered Szechuan dishes as hot as possible, and still could not detect the heat of actual chilis. The fried rice is oilier, tougher, and darker than it should be, and the Orange Flavor Chicken is too syrupy.
Nevertheless, if you're nearby and just looking for a quick Chinese fix, Main Moon can fill that void. You can order at the counter, then take a seat at a table where your food will be brought to you. The dining atmosphere is all florescent light and fast food bustle, nothing relaxing or exotic, so we prefer to carry out. Main Moon 2 also delivers, and does catering.
